I just returned from Hurghada 12/14/01 and I want to make sure to warn other tourists. The most important warning is do not book excursions through African Tours.. They did not pick me up on time, then the bus we travelled on to Luxor had no air conditoning half the time and the other half it was frigid, the bathroom was filthy and the seat I was sitting on and most of the others smelled so bad it was almost unbearable. Second the tour leader was not very knowledgeable when we actually had hin saying anything most of the time he was in the filthy bathroom with other women tourists doing god only knows what. The hotel we stayed at in Luxor was sub-standard, I wouldn't even check my pet in there. I could go on and on... But I won't bore you with the rest of the details suffice it to say when I went back to African TOurs to get a refund I was treated so rudely and I never got any money back.... What a huge rip-off. In general, my entire trip was like that the workers in the bazaars were like pirahnas, I understand tourism is not so great right now but no one likes getting harrassed to come in and look at the same junk! I found Cairo to be a much more cosmopolitan city, needless to say I did not go via African Tours I flew!!! I have been told that Ma Salam is a much better area to visit the Red Sea.. Take my advice don't go to African Tours if you do decide to go to Hurghada.. Oh one more thing be careful of the Eqyptian men in Hurghada they are mostly there to scam tourists out of money and have sex with them, that is what they live for!!!
